Where and How Did Croissants Appear?

In 1683 the Turks besieged Vienna for the second time. They started digging a tunnel to capture the city. Some baker raised alarm, and Vienna was saved. On this occasion, the baker baked the Turkish Crescent-shaped buns, that now are called croissants. In any case, this is one of the versions.
